We had found life. After millennium of searching the stars, we had discovered sentient life. Our scientists were overjoyed, for upon a small rock of a planet, life existed. No longer were we alone in the universe.
For countless years, we watched them. We attempted to make contact, but the distance was too great. So we watched, and studied. Slowly, this savage race of hunter-gatherers evolved into a spacefaring civilization. They spread to multiple planets in their solar system in a remarkably small amount of time. Throughout this time, however, wars raged constantly. These strange creatures seemed to thrive on war.
We could not understand their need for war. Our own civilization had developed on technology and religion, rather then warfare. We valued knowledge, rather then weapons. I suppose that would be why we came to fear the "Others".
Hundreds upon hundreds of years they waged war, developing new technology and weapons. We began to worry. We began asking ourselves questions, What if they found us? What if they want to destroy us? Fearing our own safety, we created a massive device that would obliterate them from the universe. We toiled for many lifetimes to create a device of infinite destruction. This device, simply called "The End", would wipe these savage creatures out, protecting our civilization.
With heavy hearts, we launched The End. All the while, the Others continued to war amongst themselves, oblivious to the impending doom slowly approaching. We grieved for them, as we continued to watch.
Without warning, the Others ceased their wars. Within the span of a few lifetimes, war was completely shunned from their society. But it was too late. The End was still approaching them, and we could do nothing to stop it. We watched helplessly, horrified with our own selfishness.
After many lifetimes, the Others, quite by chance, stumbled upon the doom approaching their planet. For a brief moment, we found hope. Perhaps the Others could disarm or destroy The End before it reached them.
Alas, the Others did not know what it was, and had no idea it carried with it the fate of their people. Finally, with no other options available, we sent hundreds of probes hurdling towards the Others homeworld, all broadcasting a single message; "Run."
We prayed the message would reach them before The End. It did not. The End entered the Other Galaxy, and detonated. Billions of lives were incinerated instantly. Planets cracked and moons exploded, while their people burned.
We did not know what to do, how to act. We had single-handedly ended an entire civilization. We grieved, and continued to watched, and prayed once more.
From the eternal darkness, a single light shown, then two, then hundreds more. Single ships and large cruisers emerged from the void. We were overjoyed some of them had survived, almost overcome with relief. Suddenly, we received a message from the Others. It read; "We will find you."
